A Step-by-Step Guide To The Denture Process

Our team of Denturists, Lab Technicians and Support staff are deeply immersed in the process of creating your new smile. From the initial consultation to denture fabrication to every check-up and denture adjustment in the years to come. We want to be part of your denture journey and will ensure you receive compassionate care and the attention to detail you deserve.

So just what is the process of getting new dentures?

Typically with standard dentures, it takes a few weeks or normally 4-5 appointments (depending on your availability). If you have had a prior Digital Denture we have your scan and measurements on hand and can replicate your dentures in fewer appointments if replacement is needed.

These appointments include:

1) Impressions– Imprints of your teeth and or gums and, surrounding oral structures.

2) Bite Registration/ Tooth Selection– Measurements are taken to ensure the teeth on your new dentures are positioned correctly. You will be able to select the style and shade of teeth available. You can also bring in a picture of how your old smile looked or, a new smile style you wish to replicate. Together you and your Denturist will be able to create the smile you are looking for.

3) Wax Try-in– You get to see your dentures & try them in before they are finished. It’s at this point any changes in esthetics can be made and another Try-in appointment can be booked so that you can see changes as they happen.

4) Finish – You get to take your new smile home!

Our Denturists recommend that you have your dentures relined every 2-3 years and replaced every 5-6. Why is this? Your mouth is constantly changing and your gums are shrinking due to being without natural teeth. Natural teeth have roots that stimulate and preserve the jawbone. If you are without teeth or dental implants, the jawbone will begin to deteriorate. This means that your dentures will need to be refitted to ensure they are not only comfortable but allow you to eat and speak confidently. Loose dentures can cause an array of health issues such as sores and poor digestion.

We will also schedule a follow-up with you to make sure your dentures are fitting you comfortably and are settling in. Please keep in mind that denture adjustments are normal not only with new dentures but over their entire lifespan. We encourage anyone that is having any discomfort or has concerns to call our office and schedule a check-up at any time.
