What You Need to Know About Complete Dentures

A complete denture is made when either all of the upper and/or lower teeth are lost and need to be replaced. A complete denture replaces all of your teeth. Beyond appearance, a complete denture enables you to chew your food properly and improve speech.

Missing teeth can compromise your health and eating habits. Chewing ability is decreased and over time, deterioration of the jaw structure. An unbalanced diet or consuming less food altogether due to poor chewing abilities can result in nutritional deficiencies, digestive problems, depression, and other psychological impacts. You don’t have to adopt the common “I’ll live with it” attitude!

We are pleased to offer many complete denture options and features such as:

*Digital Denture’s for strength, improved fit & ability to replicate ( ideal for those living in personal care homes or who travel)
*BPS Precision Dentures for our clients with a high esthetic and functional demand
*Cutter Bars for higher chewing efficiency
*Soft Liners for comfort

There are 2 types of complete dentures:
Standard, and Precision.

The main differences between the dentures are:
• The number of measurements taken (how well the denture functions)
• The material of the denture base (how well the denture fits the gums in your mouth and how dense/ strong the material is)
• The material of the denture teeth (how wear resistant the denture is, the appearance of the teeth/layers)

To avoid the situation of being without teeth, our Denturists here at Minuk Denture Clinic can fabricate an Immediate Denture (Surgical Denture). This involves taking impressions of your mouth while your natural teeth are still present. Your Denturist is then able to fabricate a denture in the likeness of your natural teeth or make the necessary modifications you may wish.

As healing occurs, the oral tissues recede so denture adjustments may be required. Follow-up appointments with your Denturist are necessary. To maintain the best fit and comfort, a temporary liner or tissue conditioner may be placed in your denture. During the next few months, bone and gum tissue will continue to heal and shrink to some degree; however, the rate of change decreased with time. This is a natural occurrence and is to be expected. After the healing process is complete, your denture will need to be relined, rebased, or remade.

This may seem like a lot of information, and it is! This is why we offer free, no-obligation consultations with your Denturist. At the end of the consultation, all clients are given a Treatment Package. This package includes options for suggested treatment with an estimate for cost, consent to treatment (once decided), and a Denture Care Schedule (step-by-step explanation of all appointments).

Once you have consented to treatment, your Denturist will work hand in hand with all other dental professionals involved in the treatment plan. (If applicable ie: Periodontist or Oral Surgeon). Then, your smile transformation begins!
